An Analysis of October 7th and the Grift

Hi gang, I know its been a while, I wish you could know truly how many articles I’ve scrapped in the last month or so since the last newsletter. That combined with a heavy mix of writers block and elevated hormone levels did not permit a single half decent read to be produced in all these weeks. That was until this particular pearl produced from a high pressure calmy environment know as Twitter, made finally something of substance in the form of this niche right wing grifter and performer.

There is to a degree a bit of overlap between my own failed production schedule and the true subject of todays writing, the stance of the digital poet warrior. The person of our interest is Maia Poet (@thepeacepoet99), an American-Israeli writer on middle eastern politics and gender. Yeah that’s a fucking title alright. Maia here is a semi regular on the left twitter realm of discourse, popping up somewhere in the realm of every 6-8 months, especially whenever relevant to the conversation about the genocide in Gaza. Maia is one of an increasing number of a new age of grifters online, push to the forefront of their respective field by Elon Musk’s change of policy on Twitter. A change of policy that has rewarded highly ‘influential’ (based on engagement) users a share of the advertising revenue from their post. This monetization plans have made it so that users who post more, and subsequently more involved in online discourse to directly benefit from it, even if the discourse itself is negative. This is on a face value, supposedly in place to give incentive to top users, including those such as independent journalists to make additional revenue something that might be incredibly difficult for some online figures. Another aspect of this monetization program is that twitter will automatically push participating users (people who have already signed up for and paid for twitter blue) to the very front of all other users feeds. This recipe brings forward an even worse version of what already exists to a degree with systems like our 24 hour news cycle (remember 80s Los Angelos TV) or late 90s reality TV, bringing forth the worst of us to the world with a built in profit incentive. This is who Maia is, the newest age of grifter following in the footsteps of all before her.

That’s a lot of yapping to say there’s a lot of money in being a shitty person regardless of now or any time. So Maia is a run of the mill grifter, why am I even bother writing about her? Now when I show you tweets. Maia posted the below Tweet shortly after midnight Israeli time on October 7^th 2024 reading; “Tomorrow marks my 1 year anniversary of not wearing a breast binder. October 7 2023, I awoke to a siren. I didn’t have enough time to squeeze myself into the barbaric breast squashing device I had used to ‘pass’ as a man. I had only enough time to run to a bomb shelter”

There’s a lot to dissect here, either the Zionist or the detransition aspect at a first glance. Maia, for the unaware is one of a main few politically relevant “detransition activists” that attempt to bring awareness to the evil left’s attempt to make people transition and that she among few others have awoken from this lie to spread the word. Previously, and as far back as I can find in my research, Maia identified as a nonbinary transmasc for 12 years starting back in 2012, specifically using a chest binder for 7 years until the conflict in Gaza kicked off, living previously in Portland and then Eugene Oregon and even earlier than that growing up in the states. It seems that around the start of Covid, she was given money from either her parents or closely related family members to attend university for free, under the condition that they attend school somewhere in Israel, eventually going to school at Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Since October 7^th of last year, she has increasingly taken part in various speaking events and written for publications situated solely within the realm of the American-Israeli Zionist and conversative media sphere. Taking part in events such as “Winning the Fight Against Gender Ideology in the Church”, an event hosted by an evangelical Arizona church with similar detrans influencers present among a wide variety. So it comes as a very big shock for many twitter users increasingly sick of her appearing forcefully on our timelines, to find that not that long ago Maia had a bunch different stance on the Palestinian people, including at a time when they were living in Israel.

In a post from mid 2020 visible above and on the left, Maia celebrates Palestine after visit parts of the occupied west bank and describes the nature of the Palestinian people. On the right, she meets with Norman Finklestein, one of the foremost experts on the genocide in Gaza and the actions of Israeli historically fore this to come to pass and explains how thankful she was to listen and meet him. To be able to go from a leftist with a real grounding of perspective and truly understand the nature of this conflict historically (especially as this is pre Oct 7^th) to someone who praises the wide scale use of force both on transgender individuals and the Palestinian people (also Lebanese and Yemeni but that’s a different story) is so absurd, that this almost exclusively comes from an ability to generate easy wealth. If you still do not believe me that this is solely as an excuse to raise her own financial capital, see the final and last tweet on how transparently evil this entire operation of hers is now.

And the absolute piece that ties it all together, the final grift. When we occupy a space of activism, is it important to remember that we act out and speak not for our own self gain, but explicitly for others. When we forget this, we ourselves become like Maia, a fate worse than death.
